We are proud to celebrate the release of our new film, La Voz del Mar: Hope for Hawksbill Turtles – now available on YouTube and in select film festivals.

La Voz del Mar: Hope for Hawksbill Turtles

Spotlighting our partner ProCosta and produced by Emic Films, La Voz del Mar: Hope for Hawksbill Turtles shares the story of grassroots conservation efforts delivering renewed hope for hawksbill turtles in El Salvador.

Festival Recognition

Filmed and completed at the end of 2021, the film has already been incredibly well-received: it has been selected to four film festivals, including some of the largest, most prestigious conservation festivals in the world.

“We have discovered a very important area for turtle conservation. But we cannot do this work without the communities that live here. They are the champions of conservation.”
Ani Henríquez, President of ProCosta, in La Voz del Mar: Hope for Hawksbill Turtles

The film premiered at the 2022 World Wildlife Day Film Showcase: Recovering Species, organized by Jackson Wild, the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). La Voz del Mar: Hope for Hawksbill Turtles was a finalist in the “Stories of Hope: Short Form” category of the showcase, which served as part of the 2022 UN World Wildlife Day celebrations on March 3rd.

The film was also selected for the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital (DCEFF), the “world’s largest green Film Festival.” La Voz del Mar: Hope for Hawksbill Turtles joined a roster of inspiring films as part of the festival’s 30th Anniversary.

Looking ahead, in late April, the film will be part of its first in-person festival: the International Wildlife Film Festival held in Missoula, Montana. We are delighted that La Voz del Mar: Hope for Hawksbill Turtles was selected for this long-standing festival in its 45th year, and that our Conservation Director Adam Henson will be attending in-person and moderating a panel discussion on a group of conservation films.

Finally, our film has also recently been accepted to the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival in New York, taking place in October 2022.

Olas de Esperanza: Building Community for Hawksbill Turtle Conservation

In addition to La Voz del Mar: Hope for Hawksbill Turtles, we also worked with Emic Films and ProCosta to create a companion video that dives into how exactly this transformative work is getting done.

Olas de Esperanza: Building Community for Hawksbill Turtle Conservation is available for free on YouTube. Check it out to learn more about the community-based efforts that are delivering hope for critically endangered hawksbill turtles while improving coastal livelihoods.

And, for even more on these efforts – you can catch the full recording of our recent virtual event celebrating the film, which featured a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the film and a candid conversation with four key players behind this work.
