Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Administration, the Accounting & Finance Associate supports accounting, budgeting and compliance efforts for Wild Earth Allies. The position works closely with finance, development, and program teams centrally and internationally to ensure accurate budgeting and expense reporting. Wild Earth Allies is in an exciting period of growth with projections to grow annual revenue from $6M to $10M by 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in global biodiversity conservation while gaining transferrable accounting, budgeting and financial compliance skills by collaborating with talented and passionate U.S. and global teams.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting

  • Accurately code and process financial transactions using QuickBooks Desktop
  • Process incoming deposits and prepare associated journal entries.
  • Support monthly labor distribution and complete restricted time billing reports.
  • Manage accounts payable process.
  • Manage monthly credit card reconciliations and expense allocations.
  • Support employee travel expense reporting and reimbursements.
  • Support monthly financial close.
  • Maintain electronic financial records.
  • Review quarterly expense reports from field teams and partners and prepare quarterly wire transfers against agreed budgets, in coordination with the Grants Associate.
  • Support fiscal year-end closing and preparation for annual audit.

Budgeting

  • Support preparation of annual organizational budget including supporting field teams, partners, and core practice areas.
  • Liase with Program and Development teams to develop and format proposal budgets, track grant expenditures, and prepare donor financial reports.

Compliance & Administrative

  • Ensure up to date SAM registration.
  • Support FBAR annual fillings.
  • Maintain Chart of Accounts and Class Lists in QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Support new hire onboarding.
  • Maintain office supply inventories and support purchasing.
  • Identify ways to leverage use of new systems and technology for greater efficiency.

Other special projects and support to the Director of Finance & Administration as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or similar field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 3+ years of accounting and financial management experience.
  • QuickBooks Desktop experience essential; proficiency with Adobe and MS Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook; familiarity with Salesforce and Donorbox preferred.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting preferred.
  • Familiarity working across cultures and managing financial flows to international teams.
  • Interest in global biodiversity conservation.
  • Strong attention to detail and comfortable managing multiple tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong team player, confident with technology.

Additional Details

  • Position: Full-time, Exempt.
  • Location: Chevy Chase, MD, USA office; hybrid position with 3+ days in the office per week.
  • Compensation: Excellent benefits and competitive salary commensurate with experience; range $68-75k.
  • Travel/schedule: Domestic and/or international travel, as needed. This position may require working outside of normal business hours to engage across time zones with staff and partners globally.
